The one-shoulder asymmetry was the structural decision — the silk panel pulls the eye across rather than down. The crystal bow at the shoulder marks the transition between the two fabrics; placed anywhere else, it would feel applied. The double-stitched pleats are restraint — single-stitched would catch more light, but the pleat line would dissolve.
